GBViE post graduate course
Applications are now open for the post-graduate diploma in Gender Based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE)

UNFPA and the Gender-Based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR) have partnered with the University of Nairobi, Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies to offer a post-graduate diploma in Gender Based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE). The goal of the programme is to increase the number of specialists with the knowledge and competencies to carry out GBV programming in emergency situations. The Post-Graduate Diploma is tailored for current and aspiring practitioners in the field of GBV in emergency situations such as those resulting from armed conflict and or disasters. The one-year programme is a successor of the 2-week short course that was offered under the same partnership since 2015 during which over 100 participants were successfully trained.

The post-graduate diploma in gender-based violence in emergencies is one of its kind globally, and is premised on gender equality principles, a rights-based approach to programming and internationally recognized best practices, particularly the Global Standards developed by GBV AoR. The graduates will be equipped with among other competencies; coordination of gender-based violence interventions in emergencies, risk mitigation and prevention, case management, psychosocial support, livelihood protection and legal support. Most importantly, the programme is set to inspire a cadre of competent humanitarian practitioners whose work is anchored on human rights across GBViE research, policy-making, programme design and implementation.

The programme will be offered through an innovative model that will allow participants to conveniently and flexibly learn through virtual interactive sessions and other open distance learning and eLearning approaches. Learners will have an opportunity to learn and share experiences with a global student community and faculty. Applications are open for September 2022 intake.
