UNFPA works to optimize successful implementation of its Country Progamme for Kenya

Mombasa, 5 December 2018 – UNFPA, the sexual and reproductive health agency, and national partners met this week to review and plan the implementation of UNFPA’s ninth Country Programme for Kenya and its programme management structure, which aims to enhance the wellbeing of women, girls and young people in the country.

The ninth Country Programme responds to national priorities as articulated in the third Kenya Medium-term Plan (2018-2022), including the President’s ‘Big Four’ Agenda, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Africa Union Agenda 2063 and the United Nations   Development Assistance Framework (2018-2022). The Country Programme has been developed within the framework of ‘delivering as one’.

“We are extremely happy, to roll forward with the implementation of our country programme. The joint work plans within the framework of ‘delivering as one’, while having many advantages has some limitation on coordinatio. We have taken this into consideration and together with the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) and in consultation with key partners developed the endorsed guidance on programme management”, said Dr. Ademola Olajide, UNFPA Representative for Kenya.

“This Programme Management guidance details the elaborate mechanism that will facilitate programme coordination in thematic areas; focus counties; and the national level in order to maximize successful implementation”, said Dr. Josephine Kibaru- Mbae, Director General, NCPD. She underlined that the endorsed programme management structure increases NCPD’s role as a Coordinating agency and optimizes the programme management among key ministries and organizations at the national level and Count Governments implementation of ninth Country Programme.
