Gender-based violence is not only a violation of individual women's and girls rights. The impunity enjoyed by perpetrators, and the fear generated by their actions, has an effect on all women and girls. It also takes a toll on global level, stunting the contributions women and girls can make to international development, peace and progress.
Tackling Gender-Based Violence is central to any agenda to advance women's rights. GBV is one of the most pervasive violations of human rights in the world, one of the least prosecuted crimes, and one of the greatest threats to lasting peace and development.
