UN Joint AIDs Team Programme

With support from other United Nations Agencies, UNFPA is supporting National Aids Control Council (NACC) in the development and implementation of a BCC strategy for youth in Kenya.

The BCC for youth is aimed at

  • defining the different categories of youth that exists in Kenya,
  • identifying the information needs of the young people with regard to HIV and AIDS,
  • select effective communication channels for young people
  • develop a BCC package promoting safe behaviour and practice amongst the Youth.

UNFPA is also involved in the Joint HIV/AIDS programme review (JAPR)as well supporting the Kenya National Aids strategic plan through not only supporting the BCC development but as well as active participation in the JAPR by

  • looking at ways in enhancing linkages between JAPR, national planning and budget cycles.
  • Strenthening the decentralisation structures at the district and constituency levels to lead to decentralised JAPR meeting in the future.

UNFPA has provided further support through stationing of a UN Volunteer based at NACC to assist in Gender Mainstreaming in HIV/AIDS Programmes.
